But for the 103 million people who are forcibly displaced today, conflict, violence, persecution and climate disasters have stripped them of this basic human need. With nowhere to turn, many displaced people seek shelter, often facing substandard living conditions. They have no guarantee of safety, or protection against the cold, damp, heat, rain or wind. Many settlements are meant to be temporary, but displaced people can spend years, and even decades, living in camps.
