TeachUp! empowers teachers to harness the power of technology to fully engage students, to expand the boundaries of the classroom,
and to prepare the new generation of connected global citizens.

Here are some examples of the TeachUp! program at work:

  • A third-grade teacher offers on-line tutorials via a live homework hotline chat room
  • Teachers use electronic bulletin boards to communicate with students and parents
  • Middle school students create a website as part of a community service project
  • An English department uses a digital whiteboard and concept mapping software to help students improve their language arts skills
  • A history teachers uses the wireless Activote system to quiz students and assess their comprehension and mastery of the material
  • A school revamps its website, thereby increasing its on-line outreach to parents and the local community
  • A school's IT department automates help desk services via a web-based ticket-tracking and customer support system

DOT works to make these scenarios a reality at schools around the world.  Through TeachUp!, teachers and schools are empowered to leverage ICT for education, administration and communication, students are more engaged in learning, parents and the community are more involved with school activities, and Interns increase their employability.

Gabrielle Turner - DOT USA Intern

DOT equips tech savvy young adults with 21st century technology and leadership skills to serve as ICT champions in schools during a ten-month internship.

Placed in public schools in economically distressed communities, the Interns work directly with teachers to increase their capacity to effectively use ICT in learning activities.

TeachUp! Interns have helped to deliver the following results to the Schools and Local Communities in the USA and China:

  • Over 57,000 K-12 students benefited from a technology-enriched learning environment

  • 5,400 K-12 teachers empowered to use technology in the classroom

  • Promoted schools’ and districts’ use of computers and digital technologies for education, administration, and communication

  • At least 10 local businesses, school districts and government agencies benefited from trained and skilled young professionals
