Welcome to DOT
Empowering People and Communities in need to Create Opportunities by using the Power of Technology
Just as light bulbs require electricity to shine, the “new economy” requires the energy of information and communications technologies (ICT) to illuminate local development. Around the world, billions of dollars have been spent on infrastructure to give communities access to ICT. Digital Opportunity Trust (DOT) is a low cost, high impact organization that secures these global investments to connect people with technology, build human capacity and provide the tools to promote community-led economic and social development.
Opportunity
A leading edge Canadian international organization, DOT focuses on creating educational, economic and entrepreneurial opportunity through the effective use of ICT for communities and people in the developing world - with a particular focus on youth and women. DOT also delivers special outreach programs to marginalized communities in partnership with the donor community.
Our Unique Approach
DOT recruits and trains talented young people (university graduates) from partner countries to become Interns. Because technology alone is not enough, we develop these technology ambassadors’ skills in leadership, project management, facilitation, communication and teamwork. The Interns then share and transfer their knowledge through practical projects led by community members that respond to local needs and opportunities.
Success
DOT's success lies in our ability to leverage innovative partnerships. The people we work with, who represent local and internal organizations, government departments and the private sector, are all champions of local ICT priorities. DOT's global community of colleagues share a common vision of a connected world in the 21st-Century.

I’ve discovered how powerful positive influence is and that given a chance, I am a great leader. I have found myself exercising leadership almost spontaneously in most situations and always feeling an urge to impact a life. In fact, my personal project changed when I noticed so many despairing young women all over my surrounding. These are ladies who became mothers at a very early age. Being held in high esteem has resulted in my being sought out for various activities in and around my community of practice. This too has had an impact on my confidence and self esteem.
